Oily skin is caused due to over active glands that produce excessive sebum. If natural oils are produced in appropriate amounts they lead to healthy looking skin with fewer wrinkles and fine lines. Excessive oil cause clogged pores and lead to breakouts. Causes of oily skin could be genetics, medications, hormonal imbalance, climate change, use of incorrect skin products, stress, overuse of incorrect skin care tools, etc. So today I will be sharing with you my home remedies for oily skin. I have oily skin and managing it has always been a challenge. But, I will tell you the ones I have tried and that worked for me.

First thing that comes to my mind is yogurt. Just simple plain yogurt can work wonders. Trust me I have tried and tested it myself. Just apply 1 tbsp of yogurt on your face using either a brush or your fingers. Let it stay on your face for about 15 minutes and then wash it off with cool water. Yogurt contains lactic acid which works as a great exfoliator.
Tomatoes contain astringents which effectively reduce the oil content in your skin and Vitamin C prevents acne. People with extremely oily skin should definitely try this. Grind a tomato and add little honey to it. Apply it on your face and then wash your face with cool water.
Lemon juice is loaded with vitamins and contains citric acid which acts as astringent. It is also known to kill bacteria on the surface of the skin, restore pH balance of the skin and also fight fine lines, wrinkles and acne. Lemon water can be used a toner. Add half cup of water to 1 tsp of lemon juice. Apply this on your face and neck using a cotton ball and rinse after 5 minutes.
Banana can act as a great option to treat oily skin. Honey can also reduce the excessive oil and prevent wrinkles and remove sun tan. Take a mashed banana in a bowl. Add 1tbsp of honey and lemon juice and mix it well. Apply this pack on your face and neck and let it dry. Wash your face with warm water once the pack dries up.
Milk can work as an excellent remedy for people with oily and sensitive skin. It can be used as oil free cleanser which reduces sebum and leaves the skin soft and supple. Add 2-3 drops of lavender oil or sandalwood oil. Don’t worry if you don’t have it. You can skip it. Apply the milk on your face using cotton ball and leave it overnight. Wash your face with cool water in the morning.
