I have been watching bloggers and youtubers creating an ombre effect on their lips. But like many of us look out for easy alternatives I too looked for the same and discovered Hard Candy Ombre lipsticks. Today I will be reviewing the Hard Candy Ombre Lipstick in 766 Friendly.
About the brand
Hard Candy is a US based cosmetics company established in the year 1995 by Iranian American sisters Pooneh Mohajer and Dineh Mohajer along with Dineh’s ex-boyfriend Ben Einstein (now the owner of Einstein cosmetics). After numerous changes to the brand. In the year 2009, Hard Candy announced its partnership with Walmart to take the brand to the masses.

Nothing has been mentioned except that Hard Candy is a cruelty free brand.

Hard Candy Ombre lipsticks come in 10 different shades, technically including 20 shades since each lipstick has 2 colours. It is supposed to create an ombre effect on the lips. The lipstick is squared shaped which in itself is unique with two complimentary shades. The shades are paired together to create an ombre look.
Around three-quarters of the squared bullet has the lighter shade while the remaining quarter is a darker shade with varying levels of contrast. It comes in a squared shaped twist tube packaging with the dark lipstick shade on the bottom part and clear lid on the top that tends to get a little messy. 🙁
You simply need to sweep in a way that dark shade faces up on the upper lip while you need to turn the lipstick the other way so that the dark shade faces down when applying on the lower lip.
I also tend to do it the other way round creating a gradient lip effect and I like it that way as well. 🙂
It has a very soft texture with creamy consistency and has very subtle vanilla fragrance to it. The lipstick feels very hydrating adding nice glossiness to the lips. It has shimmery finish while the darker shade is a bit more opaque.
I picked up the shade ‘766 Friendly’ which has a rosy red as the darker shade around the edges while the lighter shade in the center is a light pink. Inspite of the glossiness and light texture, this ombre lipstick has good staying power. The fact that it is non-transferable does make me upset, but since it is so hydrating and gives a good colour pay-off, we can manage. I hope that makes sense!.. 😛
My thoughts about Hard Candy Ombre Lipstick
Hard Candy lipstick is quiet moisturizing and glides on really well. This particular shade does provide a good ombre effect and gives a nice glossy look. The colour pay-off and the staying power is good. It can be used both ways to create an ombre as well as a gradient lip effect. It is affordable. Bad part is that it does not mention the ingredients and these lipsticks have a very shimmery finish. It is not easily available in India. But you can find it on amazon.
I like the fact that it can be used for creating two effects either ombre or gradient lip. It is affordable. If you are fine with shimmery effect and can carry it well. Also, if you wish to experiment with your lip shades, give it a try. 🙂
Have you guys tried the Hard Candy Ombre Lipsticks? What do you think about it?
